Social Media Atlantic Canada is the brain-baby of myself, Candice Walsh, & my good buddy Cailin O’Neil. We were headed to Nova Scotia’s Guysborough county in the August of 2010, pausing at beaches and soaking up the remains of summer, and we thought: why aren’t we doing more for our home? For the past two years, we’ve both been aggressively using social media and the web in our travels to secure accommodations, find adventures, and meet new people. In fact, we met through the wonderful world of Twitter, and now we’re BFFs. Why couldn’t we start teaching Atlantic Canada & the Maritimes how to be more receptive of this kind of travel?
Acting on behalf of your organization, we’ll develop a social media strategy to fit your brand and image, and then manage it to its full potential. If you’d prefer to do your own management, we can arrange a consultation session complete with training, easy-to-read documentation, creative brainstorming, and follow-up sessions. Confused by all this newfangled, Twitter gibberish? No clue how to use a hashtag? What does it mean to be “poked” on Facebook, anyway? No problem. We got you covered.
Working together, we’ll build a customizable package to fit your business’s marketing plan and budget, maintain and develop your brand, and engage new clients while promoting loyalty with long-time clients. We also do multimedia. We’re not a big marketing company, and we don’t claim to be. We’re just real people with passion, and we want to share it.
About Candice
I’ve been an ambassador for Newfoundland and Labrador since I started blogging, and now I’ve developed a strong, loyal following while making a name for myself in the social media scene. I want to apply the same tactics to your social media plan.
How did I get started? I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a BA in English (Minor-Classics), and a diploma in Professional Writing. I spent two years as a technical writer for a deep sea technology company, overseeing the commercial fisheries department.
But those experiences don’t necessarily define me. Up until four years ago, I had never stepped foot on an airplane. Then I took a chance and studied for six weeks in England, and I haven’t slowed down since. Nowadays I make travel my priority: it’s my motivator for everything I do, and I firmly believe life is meant to be lived without borders. The funny thing is the more I travel, the more I realize how amazing this part of the world is.
So from August to October 2010, I spent some time touring the Atlantic Canadian provinces in search of employment and networking opportunities. I learned that this corner of the country is one of the most special places on the planet, a land of folklore and centuries of traditions, and home to some of the friendliest, most genuine people I’ve ever met. I decided eastern Canada is something that needs to be shared, and I’ve made it my mission to do so.
Since my first forays into the world of travel blogging and writing, I completed MatadorU’s travel writing program and instantly became an editor for MatadorNetwork.com, the world’s largest independent online travel magazine. I’m a regular contributor to Westjet’s up! magazine, and I hold the title of Newfoundland’s travel blogger for AOL Canada. I’ve been published in a variety of online publications, including GoNOMAD, NileGuide, BootsnAll, Epic Thrills, RumBum, The Expeditioner, CheapO Air Canada, and more. I recently finished an iPhone app for GPSMyCity, and was published in The Expeditioner’s Guide to the World. My writing has also been featured on Reuters and MSNBC. I even dabble in some photography.
Additionally, I’ve built a large network through social media, with over 3000 Twitter followers. I have an RSS Feed loaded with social media news publications and travel blogs, and I am constantly testing new platforms. I arrange nearly all my travel through social media, and I understand how valuable it is to be online. I want to put you online, too!
About Cailin
Years ago, when I first learned about blogging and social media, I was skeptical and didn’t understand how it all worked. However, now some might call me obsessed. I am amazed with all the connections I’ve made through social media, and I want to help you understand how to use these platforms to get the message out to the right people.
I started blogging at Cailin Travels after I came to a revelation in life: “I want to live a life that makes me happy doing what I want, when I want.” I took my two biggest passions in life, travel and filmmaking, and I decided the best way to do this was to start making travel videos and create my own travel TV show, Travel Yourself. After finding an interest in the production side of things, I now find myself loving the spotlight again while traveling and creating my own videos.
I majored in Film at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and have been working in Nova Scotia’s film industry since 2007. In 2007, I won a national job search by Alliance Atlantis, where 2,500 applicants competed for the opportunity to work on 4 of their TV shows in Toronto in various stages of production. Most recently I have been working as a Production Coordinator on a family reality TV show, and I’m currently an ambassador for this year’s Nomading Film Festival in New York City.
Through SMAC I hope to create photography &/or video reviews of your product or destination. I’ll also be stretching my creative muscles to help Candice brainstorm and plan social media strategies for your business!
